Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
