The Gruesome Cartoon Movie Ending That Haunts Viewers
Among every adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever viewed, no other has stuck with me as much as the fear-filled finale of a graphically gory and highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker developed a grim, somber and often savage world with some tiny , desolate glimmers of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to advance the medium even more, the director explained that it was actually a try to communicate a universal, multicultural theme about “the common origin of all wars.”
That message is expressed via a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a famous line of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community focused on warmongering and the war machine, many of the bears are consumed by slaughtering unicorns, because of a religious scripture that claims the bears they used to be masters of the woods, before the horned beings forced them out.
Others have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , prefer to try out substances or engage sexually outdoors.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show genitals and obvious libidos.
For a particular especially vicious, skeptical animal, the character Bluey, the war against unicorns turns into a road to control — and specifically to dominance over his softer, kinder brother Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor and an obvious antisocial figure , and when terror dominates his squad and claims his comrades individually, he takes more and more control for himself, via progressively gory, harmful methods.
At the same time, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, in the form of a growing, deadly beast in their forest.
“Initially, it seems like a comedy,” the director stated. “Yet it turns into a more intense and melancholic film. And in the finale, it transforms into a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars begins resembling among the whimsical movies from a renowned filmmaker, that discover a naughty glee in letting cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Afterward it turns into closer to a bleaker film from that director, with increasingly graphic violence and a tangible connection to the real tragedy of war.
By the end, it’s a complete Grand Guignol massacre.
The fear that makes this a Halloween-friendly watch starts a lot earlier than that description suggests.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for enthusiasts of graphic films who want to view something they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and can endure a narrative that offers absolutely no punches.
View it with the lights off without any distractions, and the conclusion will crawl under your skin and stay with you.
