The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
