The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
George Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, making him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
