Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
