Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
