Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks his first championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Moutet saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
